The “New” Toolbar

Terrain Tool
In this mode, you can place/remove terrain block as usual, and it will not affect game objects. You can only select this mode if you have a terrain block selected to use.

Selection Tool
You can imagine this tool as an "eyedropper" that picks up whatever you select. If it's an object, it picks it up, and switched over to the Move Tool. If it's terrain, it puts that material on the hot bar and switched over to the Terrain Tool. The game also enters this mode by default when you select an empty hot bar slot.

Move Tool
This is the default tool when you are holding an object to place. You can move the object around by moving your character around. Also, if you hold the Right Mouse Button, and move the mouse up and down it will push the object further away or closer to you to help with positioning. Left Mouse Button places the object. This mode is not selectable when using terrain blocks.

Rotate Tool
Moving the mouse rotates the object (specifically around the X and Z axis). If you hold the Right Mouse Button, moving the mouse rotates about the Y axis. Left Mouse Button places the object. This mode is not selectable when using terrain blocks.

Scale Tool
If the object is scalable, moving the mouse forward and backward scales the object up and down. Left Mouse Button places the object. This mode is not selectable when using terrain blocks.

Delete Tool
Left Mouse Button deletes objects in the world. It does not pick them up, it just destroys them. The Delete Tool will not affect terrain.

Couple more Controls to note:
Holding CTRL while using the Move Tool allows you to place objects through each other or through terrain as well.
Number keys 1-6 or CTRL-Scroll wheel will cycle between Tools on the toolbar.
Backspace key while using the Move, Rotate or Scale tools will reset the object to its default rotation as well as re-centering the origin on of the object on the cursor.

Commands in the Console Window
disableSound - Turn off the sound system, requires a restart
enableSound - Turn on the sound system, requires a restart
quit - Immediately exits the game
setAmbientVolume - Sets the volume of ambient sounds (0.0 - 1.0)
setVolume - Sets the volume of the game sounds (0.0 - 1.0)
time xxxx - Sets the time of day, based on military time
timescale - Sets the speed time passes. 1 is normal, 2 doubles speed, etc...

Can we get the complete list of controls in game? When I checked it only had maybe 5 controls listed (unless I didn't know how to scroll for more). Also I think we are supposed to use the letter g for crafting right? Doesn't Q drop items now as well?

  • /timescale 100000 and /timescale -100000 is a little bit insane.

I would highly suggest while the commands are open to all players try limit this option for maybe x5 x10 etc as the command above could potential cause epileptic fits.

Please do not watch this video if you have epilepsy

    Example - Caution Flashing Images!

is there a command to change game mode?
  • NekochuNekochu Posts: 244 Developer
I must have missed that one, this is also a console command:

    /gamemode 0 - Creative Mode
    /gamemode 1 - Survival Mode

Pretty sure quite a few of those that were posted are either non-functional or not available in the release build. We do tend to strip out alot of the debugging type stuff for release :) So don't be surprised if some of those key combos do nothing.

Can this be updated? It's the list new players will find when they install the game, and it's very frustrating when the basic command list doesn't work.

“I” - Open the inventory - this is now "E"
"X" - toggle sprite view; some commands don't work from sprite view. (I'm hoping they will in the future.)

    While Holding a Resource/Tool/Weapon
“Mouse Left Click” - Place resource - this is now "use object"--swing weapon, eat food
“Mouse Right Click” - Nothing - this is now "place object/block"
“Q” - Place item currently held in hand - this is "drop object"

    “Ctrl” + “T” - Teleport to spawn - Doesn't seem to work.

I'm sure there are other changes; I haven't systematically gone through the list testing them.

Several folks did some pretty extensive testing on the most recent standard (not InDev) version, so a reasonably complete list exists. Unfortunately, the list is in wiki format, and it'll take a bit of retyping to get it into the same format as the previous posts here. Anybody interested in doing that, or have other ideas about how to use that existing list?
  • ElfElf Posts: 72 Seed
Doc conversion is my specialty; I hadn't realized the wiki list was the more recent/comprehensive.

    Survival Mode

    Window
    “Esc” - Toggle Main Menu
    “E” - Toggle Inventory
    “F2” - Toggle Debug Stats(?)
“Alt” + “Enter” - Toggle Full Screen Mode
“Ctrl” + “U” - Toggle User Interface (useful for capturing "clean" screenshots)
    “Enter” - Open Console

    View
“Mouse Left” - Turn (Pan) Left
“Mouse Right” - Turn (Pan) Right
    “Mouse Forward” - Look Up
    “Mouse Backward” - Look Down
    “X” - Toggle 1st/3rd Person View
    “Z” - Toggle Placement Mode

    Placement Mode
    “Z” - Toggle Placement Mode
    “Left-Click” - Drop Object
    “Right-Hold” + “Mouse Movement” (aka Right-Drag) - Scale Object
“Ctrl” + “Mouse Movement” - Rotate Object
    Movement
    “W” - Move Forward
    “S” - Move Back
    “A” - Move Left
    “D” - Move Right
    “Shift” + “W, S, A, D” - Run
    “Space” - Jump
    “C” - Toggle Crouch Mode

    Action
These actions are performed while the Inventory window is closed. Most of these actions are performed with, or by, the object in the Hand.

    “G” - Craft Item
“1” - Swap Contents of Hot-bar Space 1 with Hand
“2” - Swap Contents of Hot-bar Space 2 with Hand
“3” - Swap Contents of Hot-bar Space 3 with Hand
“4” - Swap Contents of Hot-bar Space 4 with Hand
“T” - Toggle Throw Mode[4] (left-click to perform throw action)

    “Left-Click” - Pick Up Targeted Object[1]
    —or—
    “Left-Click” -Use Object in Hand[2]
    “Right-Click” - Drop or Place 1 Item from Hand[3]
“Mouse Scroll” - Swap Items in Inventory Grid with Hand (does not affect the 4 hot-bar spaces)
“Shift” + “Mouse Scroll” - Toggle "Dig/Placement" Size
[1] If the targeted object is an inventory object (an object which can be placed within the player's inventory space and carried) it will be "picked up", otherwise the action performed with be to "use" the object in the hand space on the targeted object (unless the object in the hand space is a food item, in which case it will be eaten).

[2] When "using" an object the target may or may not be affected; some examples: using an empty hand on most environmental objects will not do anything (although some objects such as small plants can be "broken"); using a torch simply waves it about and doesn't affect any targeted objects; using a food object consumes the food (and obviously doesn't affect the target); using a knife on anything but a critter doesn't do anything, and even prevents you from picking up many objects!

[3] When dropping, placing or eating items (any action in which the contents of the hand space are diminished) if the hand space is "emptied" (the last item of a stack is dropped/placed/eaten) the hand will automagically be "re-filled" if the inventory contains more stacks of the same item.

[4] A throwable weapon must be in the Hand to use Throw Mode.

    Inventory
These actions are performed while the inventory window is open.
“H” - Move Contents of Hand into Inventory
“Q” - Drop All Contents of Hand onto Ground
“Left-Click” - Swap Cursor Stack with Targeted Space
“Left-Click” - Drop Cursor Stack on Ground (if clicked outside inventory window)
“Right-Click” - Swap Targeted Stack with Hand (closes inventory window)
“Shift” + “Left-Click” - Drop Targeted Stack on Ground
“Ctrl” + “Left-Click” - Transfer 1/2 of Targeted Stack to Cursor Stack[1] (rounds down)
“Shift” + “Right-Click” - Swap Targeted Stack with Hand (keeps inventory window open)
“Ctrl” + “Right-Click” - Transfer 1 Item from Targeted Stack to Cursor Stack[1]
[1] Subsequent clicks transfer additional items. However, if the cursor stack contains items different from the targeted space, the stacks are swapped.

    Creative Mode
Unless otherwise stated below the controls listed above in Survival mode are also available in Creative mode. When the inventory window is open, all objects that are currently available are listed in a much larger, scrollable grid. In addition, instead of only five hot-bar spaces there are multiple hot-bars available, each with nine spaces visible on-screen at once.

The most significant difference between the Survival interface and the Creative interface is the Toolbar just above and to the right of the inventory hot-bar. This toolbar consists of six tools that allow the user to control how blocks and objects are manipulated.

    Creative Mode Tools

    Terrain Tool
In this mode, you can place/remove terrain block as usual, and it will not affect game objects. You can only select this mode if you have a terrain block selected to use.

    Selection Tool
You can imagine this tool as an "eyedropper" that picks up whatever you select. If it's an object, it picks it up, and switches to the Move Tool. If it's terrain, it puts that material on the hot bar and switches to the Terrain Tool.

    Selecting Tools
    “1” - Select Terrain Tool
    “2” - Select Selection Tool
    “3” - Select Move Tool
    “4” - Select Rotate Tool
    “5” - Select Scale Tool
    “6” - Select Delete Tool
“Ctrl” + “Mouse Scroll Up” - Prev Control Tool
“Ctrl” + “Mouse Scroll Down” - Next Control Tool

    Movement

    Action
    Terrain Blocks
    “Left-Click” - Dig
