I haven't yet found a mode in which these key commands do anything. (I've tried creative with several toolbar modes, and survival with placement mode.) Have any of you been able to use them? (And if so, what simple and obvious thing am I missing?)

I'm definitely missing something obvious, then. :?

I put something in my hand then press Z to get into placement mode. Tapping the Home/End/Ins keys doesn't change/rotate/move the item in my hand, neither does holding those keys while standing still or moving my mouse around.

I think those keys may have only worked in Creative mode and that code might be out of date at this point. At any rate try these commands in survival for the advanced placement stuff.

    Enter Advanced Placement Mode: Z
Advanced Placement Quick Place: Right Mouse Click
Advanced Placement Zoom In/Out: Left Mouse Button Hold
Advanced Placement on Y-Axis: Ctrl + Mouse Movement
Advanced Placement Rotate on X-Axis: Ctrl + Left Mouse Button Hold + Mouse Movement

    Thanks!

One thing seems to work differently, though, for anybody else that's interested:

is actually: Ctrl + Right Mouse Button Hold + Mouse Movement
