so i was talking in skype just yesterday when we started talking about Necromancers.
after a while it was brought up what if a Necromancer was actively helping his town/city/guild what ever
by using his powers in helpful ways other then world domination?

so after throwing out names for these "friendly Necromancers" we came across this Title

The Re-employment of living-challenged
aka R.o.L.C / "WaRoLC's" -cuz it sounds like warlocks =)

then someone even came up with a slogan

"Death does not need to stop you from making a living.
Apply today for a Post mortem Re-employment contract!"

but what do you think? can yall come up with a better name if so plz help
cuz id like to think that Necromancers can break away from the stereotype of being Evil

Huh... this prompted me to have a read up on necromancy (as in etymology and history) and it's really quite interesting.

Necromancy is derived from the Ancient Greek words 'nekrós', meaning 'dead body' and 'manteía', meaning 'Divination' or 'Prophecy', and originally meant the practice of divination through contact with the dead. It has ties to Shamanism, where the practitioner attempts to consult ancestor spirits, though has differed over the centuries to hold the more negative connotation of reanimation and control of the dead.

Tbh, I don't think there needs to be a distinction, the title necromancer may hold negative connotations but that should be the title for both 'good' and 'evil' necromancers. I mean is there a distinction between an 'evil' and 'good' pyromancer? Nope. So why should necromancers be different? It leaves you guessing, which is something I consider gameplay.

I'd say "Cleric" is a more apt word for a good necromancer. But if we specifically talked about dark and light magic it could really depend on which was used. It's possible there is no morally good way of raising the dead. They did talk about the negative effects or "cost" to raising a dead familiar. Clerics typically draw their power by being devout followers of a Good deity. I'm not sure it will be that simple.

@ Smarty thx good to know that necromancer is the term for both good or bad
and for the history lesson on the term =) very helpful

@ Sigil humm i see your point but even if it hurts the Caster to raise the dead it could still be
    used to help people.

Hence, I can imagine why it has so many votes. I voted Utilitarian Reanimator.

It's not up there, but a nice broad term would be Summoner. That's really what necromancers do, its just a specific kind of summoning. Or if you want, something like "Dark Summoner" or "Death Summoner." Or... call yourself a "Life Mage." Kinda vague, but a necromancer does work with the powers of life, since they bring the dead back to life. Just my two cents.

I suppose there's always the general terms of Shaman or Witch Doctor.

Even though Bonelord had the most votes
I omited that Name for 2 reason
    1. It sounds pervy
    2. We are talking about a Non-evil Necromancer

    So the Winner is Reanimator

    thx Everyone for your help

Well... with the proper organization where there'd be a guild of necromancers... or a necromancer in each town which healed the wounds of the "nearly dead" or... you know good stuff like reanimating a child's dog and so... You could call them Reanimator...

Enlist your faction in Seekers Order, sub-groups or alliances are not problem with the enlisting, since we are a not a clan, just a UN sistem of organization.

Well i am a necromancer i can fully ressurect that childs dead dog but it will probably cost a lot of my blood Ps i use my blood to ressurect dead things i can bring them to life not undead life but life life but i prefer using only little of my blood and i can create zombies by giving them a tiny drop of my blood or life force
PS I just gave a suggestion try to figure it out

A necromancer that helps people would be called a... necromancer. All a necromancery means is divination through alleged communication with the dead; black art. magic in general, especially that practiced by a witch or sorcerer; sorcery; witchcraft; conjuration. This is a google result. The reasons necormancers are seen as bad because if they were to help someone they would requires and do questionable things.
